Northampton High celebrates European Day of Languages 2020

We were delighted to celebrate the occasion with exciting events throughout the week

For many years, we have celebrated the European Day of Languages here at Northampton High School. With a whole week of activities planned in the run up to this special day, it is a very important and much loved week in our school calendar. The Languages faculty and our students were determined that we would still mark this European-wide celebration of language learning, in line with the current restrictions.

Whilst our girls missed the ‘social’ aspect of our many events, tutor groups enjoyed quizzes on the theme of language learning, including Latin and Greek derivations. Our Year 8 girls considered sexism in language and Year 5 designed posters to mark the occasion. Our annual European Day of Languages Bake Off became a ‘virtual’ Bake Off this year, with students baking at home and submitting photos of their tasty creations!

Our week of activities concluded on Friday morning with a virtual whole school assembly, where some of our talented linguists, from Junior School to A Level students, displayed their skills and passion for languages. All rounded off with a Kahoot challenge!

We are delighted to share some pictures from this week’s festivities, which you will find by viewing our Flickr page here.
