400 girls welcomed for Sports and Science Enrichment Days!

We were delighted to host a number of local schools for the two fun-filled days this summer.

With the 2018/19 academic year drawing to a close, we were elated to welcome dozens of local primary schools into our community here at Northampton High School, for exciting and educational Enrichment Days. Nearly 400 girls travelled across the county to join us for the two events, as young students took part in fun activities designed to pique their interests and explore their curiosities.

The first of these was our Sports Enrichment day, as over 300 girls made their way to Northampton High for the days activities. PE staff from the High School, alongside external coaches from the likes of the Northampton Saints and Northamptonshire Cricket, ran expert sessions on a rotation basis, giving the girls plenty of time to enjoy the many sports on offer. Sport is a huge part of life here at Northampton High, and it was great to see the enthusiasm of all the girls as they tackled the sporting challenges throughout the day.

Next, it was the turn our our Science team, hosting a further 90 students for the WHEW! Science Extravaganza – an exciting day of experiments and STEM-related wonder! Among the many sessions on offer was Mrs Hodgetts-Tate’s Harry Potter-themed potions class, in which girls delighted in the chemical reactions and colour-changing spells! Girls also enjoyed, amongst many other activities, making their own bath bombs and firing rockets. “Our aim is to inspire pupils in the world of Science”, commented Mrs Hodgetts-Tate. She continued “we are fortunate to have a vibrant Science department with many of our students choosing STEM subjects for their studies”.

It was fantastic to welcome so many young minds into our School, to show them what a day in the life of a High School student can offer. With new friends made, and new areas of interest found, we look forward to welcoming more local children to Northampton High next year, as we plan our next wave of partnership activities.
