Why Sixth Form?
Welcome to Sixth Form at Northampton High School
If I’m asked what makes our Sixth Form stand out, I highlight one thing: the combination of focus & ambition alongside a spirit of inclusiveness & fun.
Individually, our Sixth Formers are motivated. They are ambitious and they want to succeed – academically and in the wider world. But as a group of young women, they also work to raise each other up. They so often demonstrate a collaborative mindset that helps individuals to realise their aspirations, whether that’s through revision study groups, sports teams, music groups, leadership of the school’s house system, etc.
"We want our Sixth Formers to feel confident, fearless and empowered about their future."
—James Earp – Interim Director of Sixth Form
We want our Sixth Formers to be confident in following their own path; there isn’t one set route through Sixth Form and there isn’t a typical High School student. Our Sixth Formers go on to train as lawyers, doctors and economists, but also as dancers, artists and musicians; they go to world-leading universities and join apprenticeship programmes at global companies. Through their time in the Sixth Form they develop important life skills, including leadership, through mentoring younger students, organising house events and fundraising for local charities.
We’re also part of the Girls’ Day School Trust, which means we have access to all the resources and expertise of a national organisation dedicated to promoting women’s education. This provides our students with opportunities to participate in competitions with students from the other 25 GDST schools, including highly competitive sports rallies and the prestigious GDST LEAD scheme, run in conjunction with the London School of Economics. Not only that, but you can tap into a huge network of women who have been to GDST schools themselves, many of whom are looking to give back to girls and young women by offering their guidance and expertise. You can read more about our academic, enrichment and extracurricular programme here.
Essentially, the role of our school, of our Sixth Form teachers and tutors, is to give each individual student the support and attention they need to flourish. We’re privileged to have that opportunity.
Each year we welcome girls into the Sixth Form who join us from other schools and we would love to hear from you if you want to find out more about the High School. Spending a day with us is probably the best way of getting a sense of what makes our Sixth Form unique.
