Life at Northampton High

Northampton High school is a busy and exciting environment for those who study here and those who work here. We are able to provide a wealth of opportunities to our pupils at all levels and we have high expectations that they will take advantage of many of them.

Regardless of their strengths, be it sporting, musical, academic or creative, there is something for everyone here and we celebrate each girl as an individual, regardless of her individual talents.

Each day will look different for our pupils, consisting of a range of subject specific activities in lesson time, opportunities for extra-curricular on a daily basis and plenty of chances to come together as a community in a variety of ways, to enable social development.

We have a strong and proud house system, with our four houses named after the Greek Goddesses; Artemis, Demeter, Hestia and Selene. The attributes of our houses are celebrated as we recognise the strengths of their namesakes, and the competition between them is supportive but fierce. House events take place each term and are highlights of the academic calendar, from House Singing and Drama to Sports Day and debating, we celebrate it all, cheering on our own houses but also our community as a whole. Despite our different houses, we remain a family above all else.

The school day, maintains a simple and familiar structure for all:

Clubs and extra-curricular or enrichment activities take place across lunch times and after school every day. We expect our pupils to take part in some of these and recommend a minimum of two per week.

In addition to this, across the school calendar, we have a variety of days where pupils will be off timetable, learning in different ways. This might be in school at an event such as Cultures Day, or off site on a school trip. Opportunities to learn outside of the classroom are just as valuable as the classroom based tasks which make up the majority of their education. We value these enormously and would love to talk to you about them if you have questions.
