Junior Newsletter 8 June 2018

Dear Parents and girls

Our Key Stage 2 girls enjoyed a very successful Sports Day yesterday with favourable weather conditions and plenty of vocal support. I really enjoyed seeing them interact with the Senior School girls and making the most of the relaxed atmosphere. Even though there was fun to be had, the racing was competitive and I saw a number of girls who had improved significantly since last year.

I always enjoy the visit of grandparents to Junior School and really appreciate the efforts made to spend time in school with granddaughters. There was an abundance of energy displayed by all, and time to reflect on the school experience then and now.

The Year 4 Class Assembly on Wednesday was very musical with the girls sharing 2 songs and a rap about the Egyptians, which they had learnt as part of their recent History Day. They are at an age where they can understand the gory and violent times of this era and managed to share their findings about embalming and mummification without scaring our Reception girls!

Next week is very busy in school with the main events being the Year 3 Residential trip to Grendon and the Year 5 and 6 play. I am joining Year 3 for the first day of their trip before heading to London for 2 GDST conferences which look like thought provoking and useful days.

Ross Urquhart, Head of Junior School

Our week

Kipper Room

In Kipper Room we have been washing the dolls and experimenting with the remote control toys. The girls have recently had some new bikes which have also proved to be popular.

During our ballet lessons on a Friday we have been using lots of action role play to help with our expression.

We have also begun to make lolly pops for our new home corner area.

Elmer Room

This week in Elmer Room the girls have had fun exploring the outdoor area where they have been practising their climbing and bike skills. They also learnt about the importance of road safety. We have been learning to recognise our numbers and develop our positional language through different activities in the classroom.

Please remember group 2 of open ballet will take place on Friday 15 June.

Our trip to West Lodge Farm was the highlight of this week. The girls enjoyed seeing lots of different farm animals. They stroked rabbits, guinea pigs and sheep. They brushed a baby goat and handled some sheep wool. The barrel ride was very exciting, as was the pig racing! All the girls were very well behaved and it was a pleasure to see their enthusiasm and obvious interest.
