Dear Parents and girls
Having celebrated success in sport last week it was the turn of music to take centre stage this week. The Summer Concert was a wonderful celebration containing pieces from all of the music groups run in school. This was a special concert for everyone in the school community, as it was the last for Mrs Miller, who retires at the end of the year. It was plain to see that the girls love of music stems from Mrs Miller; seen by the smiles on their faces, their confident relaxed relationships and the dedication to be there even if they are feeling poorly! We will have more opportunities to say farewell to Mrs Miller during the remainder of the year and I know that many people will have many kind words to say to her.
School will be quieter than usual next week with Year 6 out on their residential trip to Osmington Bay. I hope they get some nice weather and enjoy the variety of exciting activities on offer. I will be taking a group of five Year 5 girls to the Royal Institution of Great Britain in London on Thursday for the first GDST Year 5 Science Conference. This is an exciting new event in a prestigious venue which promises to enrich the school curriculum and I think I may be more excited than the girls!
Wednesday 2 May is the school’s 140th birthday and we are holding a special whole school assembly for all girls in Reception to Year 13 in the Senior School Hall. The assembly is due to start at 8.35 am and therefore I ask that all girls arrive early or at least promptly so that they can be involved.

Under 11 Swimming
On Friday 20 April, the Under 11 swimming team successfully competed in the Regional Qualifying round of the ESSA Relay competition. We travelled to Louth with high hopes of qualifying; knowing that the top three teams in each even would go through to the Nationals.
Our team finished 4th in both the medley relay and the free relay in times of 1.18.04 and 1.07.24 respectively. Congratulations to the team of Sophie Johnson, Elizabeth Tansley, Erin Currie and Emily Horne (c).

Our week
|
Kipper Room
This week in Kipper room the girls have enjoyed exploring their senses through decorating cakes which they then enjoyed eating. They also had fun going to the garden centre to buy a range of different seeds to plant, to have a visual image of the plant life cycle alongside the story Jack and the Beanstalk. The girls have been categorising animals in height order too.
Elmer Room
In Elmer room this week the girls have had fun continuing our theme of superheroes. They have enjoyed pretending to be their superheroes, talking about what a superhero is. We have also been focusing on number recognition where the girls have had to match the bike to the correct parking space and also put the princesses in the correct numeral order.
At Forest School the girls enjoyed exploring their surrounding using the magnifying glasses to inspect the insects.
Some of the girls visited Richmond Village on Tuesday they enjoyed making Spring pictures with the residents.
Next week the girls will have the opportunity to:
- Participate in super hero action training
- Develop their writing skills using water and paintbrushes
- Create a superhero gingerbread man
- Look at the book Supertato

This week we have been enjoying watching our real caterpillars growing bigger. We have read the story about ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, painted some lovely pictures and made some long chain caterpillars.
We have been counting in groups of ten and writing the sequence down, practising our number formation.

“On Art & DT Day we made a dolls’ house with Mr Brandon-Jones and Mrs Stock helping. We made all the furniture and covers and things made out of material ourselves. My favourite bit of furniture that I made was my wardrobe because I could chop all the wood up by myself and I used a matchbox and the pins to do it.” Harriet
After having a photograph taken with Mrs Stock: “This sewing machine must be the most famous sewing machine in the world. I like hand sewing but the sewing machine is so fast!” Melodee

“I liked our Art Day because we made dragons with snappy mouths! I added wings to my dragon” Mollie

This week Year 6 have faced 5 assessments in all different subjects. Eva said ”The tests weren’t that bad!” and we did lots to prepare for them the week before. In Production Club, after school, many of Year 6 have been preparing for their school production and we have also been getting excited about our trip to Osmington Bay next week. Nikki said, “I am excited to try out all the outside activities especially sailing!” Everyone has started thinking about packing ; remember it is only a 5 day trip so you don’t need a massive suitcase! We hope everyone enjoys the exciting experiences coming up and have a wonderful time by the Dorset Coast!
