Dear Parents and girls

There are some moments in the school journey which are truly memorable and reinforce the reasons why people love being a teacher or working in a school setting. Last night I attended, what is likely to be, the only major school event I have never attended – The Year 13 Leavers Reception. Attending as a parent I was very moved to see my own daughter and her friends recognized by their teachers and each other. Their collective achievements were incredible and from a wide range of fields, further proof that an education can be broad and still reach academic highs. Their post school destinations and career plans were full of top subjects and world-class universities. This group were already in Senior School when I joined Northampton High School, so I did not have any teaching contact with them, however I feel proud to be associated with them all in a small way, and look forward to attending this event in future years when the families who spent their first visit with me are in the spotlight.

I would like to thank FoNHS and their volunteers for the Movie Night which took place last week. The earlier start and finish time suited the girls who were all watching the film in pyjamas, and I am sure it did not take long for them to get sleep after a busy week.

There have been some interesting events in school this week which have all inspired girls in different ways. Thank you to Mrs Greenbank for organising the Book Fair, Mrs Fordham for leading the inter-house debating, Mrs Dadge and Fordham (along with Year 6) for the allotment charity day on Thursday and Miss Taylor for the Egypt Day in Year 4. Plenty going on and leading us nicely into the half-term break which I hope is enjoyable for all.

Ross Urquhart, Head of Junior School

Come to our Open Rehearsal to find out more

Do you enjoy making music with like minded people? Would you like to have fun, develop your singing skills in a relaxed, friendly environment?
We are holding an ‘open rehearsal’ on Thursday 7 June from 7.30pm and would like to welcome anyone interested in joining us to find out more (over a glass of wine too!). This is NOT an audition, just an evening of singing and laughter. Please do come along; meet us in the Senior School Reception.
We meet once a week, 7.30-9.00pm in School and sing everything from Coldplay to Mozart, Paul Simon to Mendelsohn.
Ladies and gentlemen from our parent body, friends of the School and the wider community are most welcome, with or without previous choir experience. You don’t need to be able to read music; you just need to be able to carry a tune and be keen to join in.

To find out more please contact us via our Facebook page or email Mrs Arkell on

We have thoroughly enjoyed all of the swimming watching weeks and galas for Junior School over the past two weeks. After half term the school are delighted that we have building work taking place which will improve and update the swimming pool. This does mean however that there will be no swimming lessons as part of the Physical Education Curriculum next half term. We will of course return to weekly lesson in September. In the meantime your daughters will be using the time from their swimming lessons to prepare with their PE teachers for their performances for the upcoming Gymnastics and Dance Extravaganza which is being held on Tuesday 3 July from 6.00 pm – 8.00 pm.

Our week

Kipper Room

This week the girls have enjoyed going to the local park for a picnic. They also had fun going on the play equipment. We have been mixing potions with orange and mint in the garden. They have also been exploring their senses in the sensory garden. We have been taking it turns when playing games and especially liked the Peppa pig matching game.
After half term we will be looking at holidays and the seaside.

Elmer Room

This week the girls have been busy recreating a large picture of Claude Monet’s waterlilies. They have used different media and materials to complete the picture which will be on show during the Arts Festival week.
We all enjoyed dressing up for the allotment day and using the running track on the large field.
After half term our topic will be Transport and Travel.

Here are the girls in nursery this week. Please click here to view the whole album

This week the girls have been concluding the topic of minibeasts by writing clues and descriptions about a favourite minibeast. They then chose a picture of the minibeast from the computer and stuck it under a flap with the writing. Models of differing make believe minibeasts have been created in abundance on the workshop, encouraging an excellent use of descriptive language. Looking at the butterflies has linked well with symmetry and making a symmetrical patterns.

At Forest School this week we had a real fire and cooked cakes inside large oranges! A fantastic experience in many different ways.

Wishing you all a lovely half term break.

“Yesterday afternoon we went to the Year 6 charity fair. In the allotment fair there was a drink with different types of straws and there were little umbrellas to put in the drink. They had pretty designs on them and there were lots of different colours you got to choose from.” Melodee

“We have been doing our Paul Klee pictures. We had to do it slowly and work our way up to the top. We are using oil pastel and we can mix them together to make the colours Paul Klee use… but you get very messy hands!” Sophie

Year 2

2N have been learning to debate this week and working very hard making progress on their multiplication skills.

“I like using Mathletics to help me learn my time tables” Celesani

Year 6

On Thursday 24 May the Year 6 girls set up stalls to make money for their chosen charity, Re:Store. This is a great charity to raise money for because it helps support those who are less fortunate than we are in life.

For our Charity Fayre we set up a wide variety of interesting stalls from a Mocktail and fruit kebab bar to a Bric-a-Brac stall. The Junior school all dressed up as a farmer, a scarecrow or in the colour of their favourite fruit or vegetable.

We hope everyone enjoyed the stalls and hope we have raised lots of money for this great cause!
