Junior Newsletter 23 March 2018
|
Dear Parents and girls
I write this whilst waiting to take the ski trip girls on their last day skiing in France. They have impressed me with their willingness to keep going when facing a new challenge and the number of new friends from within the GDST family they have made.
The summer term is full of exciting events and learning opportunities and I am looking forward to welcoming several new families to our school community. I wish everyone a Happy Easter and an enjoyable holiday.
Ross Urquhart, Head of Junior School

Kipper Room
The Kipper girls were very excited when they hunted for Easter treats in the garden and on the way to the park they looked for signs of Spring.
In role play activities they have been visiting the seaside in the car which prompted them to make sand pictures.
Elmer Room
The girls have enjoyed doing Easter activities especially making Easter Nests and golf ball rolling on rabbit pictures.
They have also loved the new home corner and have been busy looking after and bathing the baby dolls. Outside they have been busy riding the bicycles and climbing on the obstacle course.

This week we have been learning about length and linking this with the story ‘Super Worm ‘ by Julia Donaldson. Ask your daughter if she can remember any of the Super Worm song! This was the highlight for Cora who said her favourite part of the story was “the lizard in the web and the honey and leaves.” Asmi has enjoyed “making the chick card” and Sakinah and Eva R thought that making the chocolate nests was a real treat.
Wishing you all a fabulous break and let’s hope for better weather!

“We went to Woburn Safari Park and we saw monkeys climbing on the roof of the minibus and there were brown dirty footprints all over. Later on we had our lunch near some penguins and we saw otters and meerkats and sea lions… they were my favourite because they looked rubber and I liked them because I saw a Mummy and a Daddy and a baby one.” Venece
“My favourite bit at Woburn was the parrots because we got to hold them and they were so fluffy and so cute and they were tickling us.” Jessica
“This week I liked going on Mathletics for the first time because Miss Brandon-Jones said that when we had done our maths we could do our faces. When you do more maths things you get to have special computer money that you can spend on clothes and backgrounds.” Grace

Easter Special
This week Years 5 and 6 are on their amazing Ski trip. Meanwhile, the rest of Year 6 are doing even more fantabulous stuff such as: The Dragon’s Den Business Project, Going to the Allotments, and Fun Swimming.
On Monday Year 6 were introduced to the Dragon’s Den Business Project.
This year Mrs. Fordham and Mrs. Dadge introduced a new supermarket that will open in May called ‘Eatwell’ . This year we are making Healthy Biscuits for its grand opening. The winners of the Business Project will receive a tasty surprise!
On Tuesday Year 6 were meant to run a mile to help fundraise for Sports Relief. Luckily everyone ran a mile and some people ran over a mile. Thanks to everyone who helped.
On Wednesday we went to the Allotments to learn and help grow some of the vegetables and plants that grew there. The people that own the Allotments donate the plants and vegetables to people who may have fallen on hard times.
On Friday, Year 6 presented their biscuits to the Eatwell board ( Mrs. Fordham and Mrs. Dadge ) who said that they were most impressed with our business acumen and the USP’s of our products!
Have a good holiday everyone!
