Friday 9 May
U15 Cricket
On Friday 9 May the U15 Cricket team played in a hardball triangular against Newcastle and Shrewsbury. Our first match was against Shrewsbury and we batted first. Frankie and Daisy started the batting off strong, and after the 12 overs we had to bat, we scored a total of 56 runs. Our fielding was strong, and we stopped Shrewsbury from getting the points they needed to beat us, winning the game. Up next was Newcastle. Newcastle had beaten Shrewsbury as well and were a strong team. We batted first and ended up getting 70 runs. Special mention to Kara and Lyra for their excellent batting. We fielded well, however unfortunately Newcastle got the required runs with 8 balls to spare meaning we came second overall. Well done to all the Year 9s that played up.

Akeley Wood School won by 9 runs
Akeley Wood – 70 runs Northampton High School – 61 runs
Northampton High School took on Akeley Wood School in a tight cricket match that came down to the final few overs. After winning the toss, we elected to bowl first, looking to make an early impact.
Akeley Wood School started strongly, hitting a few boundaries in the opening overs. Our fielding was a little slow to begin with, but it steadily improved. Our bowlers were good, taking a few wickets and limited Akeley Wood School to a total of 70 runs, which was competitive but achievable.
We started our batting with a few early wickets setting us back. We had a bumpy start but the team didn’t give up. In the final few overs, our batters scored lots of runs, hitting lots of boundaries, bringing us back into the game.
Despite our team’s effort, unfortunately we had lost but only by 9 runs.
Angelie got Batter of the Match for her good batting and Hester got Bowler of the Match for her good bowling.
Although we didn’t win, the match was great fun, showing lots of teamwork and letting us reflect on our performance to do even better next time.
