Northampton High School GDST Junior pupils take a trip back in time to Milton Keynes Museum.
Pupils from our Junior School recently had an enriching and educational experience at Milton Keynes Museum.
This trip provided a hands-on day of learning, focusing on the evolution of toys and a glimpse into Victorian life.
One of the highlights of the day was exploring the museum’s extensive collection of toys. The girls were able to see first-hand how toys have changed throughout the years which linked with their history topic.
‘I learned that children only got one present at Christmas.’ – Junior School student
In addition to the toy exhibition, the girls immersed themselves in the museum’s carefully preserved Victorian-era settings where the students learnt about how people used to live. They even got to experience a Victorian era classroom!
‘I liked seeing the strict teacher in the school.’ – Junior School student
‘I liked when Mrs Dadge had to wear the hat with a D on it.’ – Junior School student
The girls explored a typical Victorian home, and compared this to their homes. They also learnt about the clothing and general routines of a Victorian child.
‘I liked learning about the outside toilet and that it was just a piece of wood and a hole!’ – Junior School student
Thank you to the volunteers at Milton Keynes Museum for providing the girls with an informative and fun day!
