Pastoral Care & Wellbeing

Our approach to pastoral care and wellbeing is always ‘Girls First’. We aim to know and understand the way each girl navigates her time at Northampton High School and we are therefore equipped to support her when things get tough.

We don’t shy away from the fact that there will be challenges, but part of our mission is to instil perseverance so that each girl can learn the skills and strategies required to overcome any obstacle, be it personal to her or shared with others.

We will also stand by her on her journey of self discovery, academic development and personal growth, acting as her guide, her mentor and her cheerleader. Our pastoral structure in the Junior School ensures that there are multiple staff on hand to support individuals. Through an amalgamation of the traditional and the contemporary, we have combined a consistent form tutor approach with specialist teaching and adaptive pastoral care.

Mentoring

Staff, across the board, make themselves available and we allocate time every day for mentoring, guiding and team-building.

Assemblies allow us to instil a shared ethos and provide a platform to express our shared values, sing together and celebrate effort, progress, success and service.

Of course, there is no magic formula that guarantees happiness and success; however, we have vast experience generated from over 140 years in girls’ education and a desire to be the best we can be. Between our highly trained classroom practitioners and specialist team of wellbeing and medical leads, we are ready to support both the academic and the social elements of the school day, providing an exceptionally well rounded system to foster those important primary years.

There might well be stumbles along the path, but our girls don’t stay down for very long!
