International Applicants
Northampton is a multicultural town, located centrally in the UK it offers an ideal base for students to explore the country.
Surrounded by beautiful countryside, with excellent transportation links and London just an hour away on the train, students have the opportunity to access the best of the UK’s places of interest.
We are proud of the rich cultural learning experience that our diverse student population offers through the sharing of languages, customs and backgrounds. The school offers a safe, welcoming and productive environment that recognises and respects individuality. There is a strong sense of community or ‘family’ within the school, where students feel valued and respected.
Girls coming to the United Kingdom with their family
We welcome a number of international students into the school every year. If you are moving to the United Kingdom and bringing your daughter with you on your visa, or if your daughter holds a UK passport, she may join Northampton High School by following our standard entry procedures, subject to her currently attending an International School and following the UK education system.
We are pleased to make individual admissions arrangements for girls wishing to relocate to the UK. Entrance assessments may be completed in your daughter’s current school prior to your relocation to the UK.
Girls coming to the United Kingdom without family
We hold places for a small number of girls from overseas schools who are planning to live in the UK without their parents, by sponsoring their stay through our Tier 4 Child Sponsor licence through the UK Border Agency.
We ask that girls are proficient in the English language and hold an overall IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent.
Where English is an additional language, we require girls to take English as an Additional Language (EAL) lessons in school; these lessons are charged separately.
Support for International Students
We understand that moving to a new country and studying in a second language can be very daunting. We offer English as an Additional Language (EAL) support to students on a weekly basis, as well as one to one support to ensure that the transition to the UK is as smooth as possible.
During the one to one sessions, students will have the opportunity to talk through any concerns and receive helpful advice to enable them to settle comfortably into school and home life in the UK. They will be encouraged to access the wider activities on offer and receive individual support with homework.
Our EAL Coordinator is experienced in working with students new to the country, and she has a good understanding of students’ educational and emotional needs in transitioning to a new environment. Please see our Sixth Form pages for more information about our tailored Sixth Form Programme.
