Step two – Taster Days, Assessment and Offers

Nursery (age 2- 4 years)

On receipt of your registration form, we will make an offer in writing to you for your daughter’s place in the Nursery. You and your daughter will be invited to the Nursery for two visits before she starts, to help her to settle in and to introduce her to our routines.

Girls registered with us are invited to join us for ‘Taster Tuesday’, which runs every Tuesday from 1.30pm – 3.00pm during term-time. This is a fantastic opportunity for new girls to settle into Nursery gradually. We ask that parents stay with their daughters for ‘Taster Tuesday’, however there is no need to book – just come along when you can.

Reception (age 4 – 5 years)

Once we receive your daughter’s registration, we will formally offer your daughter a place for Reception. There is no assessment for entry into our Reception class, and settle visits are arranged for June/July, when girls spend time with their peers and their teachers.

Years 1 – 6 (age 5 – 11 years)

Girls are invited to spend a morning (Year 1) or a day (Years 2-6) with us, in a class with girls of her own age, for a ‘taster morning or a taster day’, during which time she will complete assessments in English, Mathematics and Reading.

Feedback on your daughter’s time with us is shared with you and we offer places following the successful completion of our assessments. Further visits are arranged for the summer term, when your daughter will meet her class and her new teacher.

Girls who sit the entrance exam for Year 5 and Year 6 are, as a rule, offered automatic progression to Senior School.

Nearly all girls transfer to the Senior School at 11 for the next stage of their education.

Year 7 to Year 11 (age 11-16 years)

In the Senior School, the majority of girls join us at 11+ (Year 7) and at 13+ (Year 9), although we may have spaces in other year groups. In October, once you have registered your daughter with us, you will receive an invitation for her to attend an Entrance Assessment day in the January preceding the September intake. We make formal offers of places in February as well as offers of scholarships and bursaries at this time.

On the Year 7 Entrance Assessment day, your daughter will sit one multiple choice paper in English and one in Mathematics. The papers are based on the National Curriculum and there is no need for girls to specifically prepare for these assessments. Your daughter will join in team building activities, have lunch with us and participate in group activities and a ‘getting to know you ‘ session in the afternoon.

The Entrance Assessment day for girls hoping to join Year 7 in September 2018 will be held on Friday 12 January 2018.

Your daughter will be asked to sit assessments in Mathematics and English, and will spend time with girls of her own age to experience life at the High School.

The Entrance Assessment day for girls hoping to join Year 9 in September 2018 will be held on Monday 15 January 2018.

We make formal offers of Senior School places in February for the following September intake.

Should you wish your daughter to join us in other year groups in the Senior School, or at other times of the year, we are pleased to make individual arrangements for taster days, entrance assessment and admission.

Sixth Form (age 16-17 years)

Girls join our Sixth Form from a wide range of schools. New entrants to the Sixth Form are expected to achieve at least five GCSEs at Grade 6 (or equivalent) or above, including in English and Mathematics.

Details of our A Level courses and specific entry requirements are available in our Sixth Form Programme Guide. We invite prospective pupils to attend our Sixth Form taster days to experience life in our Sixth Form as well as meet with the Heads of Department of the subjects that they wish to study.

We ask for a copy of a recent report from the girls’ present school and results in mock A Level examinations, when available. We make formal offers of a place in December for the following September intake, subject to your daughter’s final GCSE results.

We are pleased to make individual arrangements for taster days, entrance assessment and admission.

Step three – Accepting a place for your daughter

On making an offer of a place for your daughter, we will ask you to complete our acceptance documentation and to make the deposit payment (£50 for Nursery places; £500 for places in the Junior School, Senior School and Sixth Form) to secure your daughter’s place with us.

The deposit will be refunded to you when your daughter leaves the school. There are a number of opportunities for girls and their families joining the school to get to know their teachers and peers before they start with us, including Welcome and Information Evenings, Welcome Days and other events, so that the transition to the High School is
smooth and enjoyable for all.
