Drama is a popular choice both at GCSE and A level, with many girls also participating in the rich programme of extra-curricular activities and trips. The Drama Department is extremely well-resourced; lessons take place in a 'black box' studio space with state-of the-art lighting rigs and sound system. Within the space there is access to scenery flats and staging blocks while additional resources include a large costume, scenery and props store plus a wonderful choice of classical and contemporary scripts.
There is an annual school production which involves all year groups within the Senior School. Previous performances have included, Alice in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Hamlet. These are staged in the main hall on a proscenium arch stage incorporating a full lighting rig and desk and a superb sound system, as well as a Stage Manager’s desk with talk-back and call facilities. The Drama Department offers an annual September play for the Senior Drama Company which involves a small ensemble cast. Recent productions include, ‘The Permanent Way’ by David Hare, ‘Attempts on her Life’ by Martin Crimp and ‘Art’ by Yazmina Reza. There are further opportunities to perform contemporary work and devised pieces as part of the Arts Festival in July, as well as throughout the year in ‘lunchtime performances’ to raise money for charity. There is an annual House Play Competition in December.
