At Northampton High School all food is cooked on-site by our qualified and experienced catering team, led by Catering Manager, Dawn McCue. They provide a delicious, varied and nutritional three course lunch for girls and staff with the menus changed weekly to complement the seasonal availability of different foods. All food is freshly cooked from soups to sauces and there is an extensive choice on offer daily. The lunchtime menu includes a choice of two hot meat meals or a vegetarian meal, a salad bar, homemade soup, fresh bread baked daily, two dessert options plus fresh fruit and yoghurts daily. Our full menu for the week ahead is displayed on the parents portal each week and sent to parents in our weekly newsletters: High News and Junior News We have our own herb garden on site.
In addition to our weekly menus, we also have a number of themed menus linked to particular dates and events, for example Chinese New Year, Australia Day, Burns Night and for Shrove Tuesday, a pancake bar. This gives the opportunity to sample a wide variety of foods and the Dining Room is appropriately adorned to add to the ambience.
The Sixth Form have their own café, which is part of the extensively refurbished Sixth Form facilities, although they can choose to eat in the Dining Room on any day if preferred. The café provides a selection of meals including salads, filled wraps and baguettes, ciabatta breads, panninis and jacket potatoes with various fillings and two hot puddings as well as yoghurts and fresh fruit. There is a vending machine for girls to use at their own convenience.
At break the ‘Big Blue Café’ opens in the Dining Room allowing girls to purchase a range of healthy snacks and drinks. Care has been taken to select foods that are low in fat and salt with no added sugars that comply with the Heartbeat Awards.
Breakfast is also available with a wide choice available daily including cereals, sausage or bacon baps, yoghurts, fresh fruit and pain au chocolat and bagels on some mornings.
All sports fixtures, events and functions are provided for by our in-house catering team.
The Catering Department has been awarded the Heart Beat Award for excellent healthy food, which is a nationally accredited award achieved by caterers who show continued commitment to customers by providing healthier food choices in a healthier environment. All of our chefs are NVQ trained and qualified with most having a multi-NVQ qualification which includes service skills.
FIVE STAR CATERING
Following the recent tour (11 Jan 2012) and thorough checks of the catering department by Mr. Mark Radley, Environmental Health Officer, we are very pleased that the catering department have retained their five star rating.
Mr. Radley was extremely impressed with all the standards and policies that are operated in the department and informed them that the five star rating is reverting to a national numerical rating and we will receive the highest rating. Congratulations to Mrs Dawn McCue, Catering Manager and her team for this outstanding inspection result.
